We were staying in the area looking for a dog friendly place to eat that also had vegan options. Rang ahead and was able to book to eat in bar area. When we arrived we we were given a very warm welcome. The waiter could not have been more helpful including sorting out a vegan meal for me which was delicious. The gentleman who I assume was the owner made us feel like valued customers and was passionate about the business. We had a lovely evening the food was great value for money and it was very dog friendly. Recommended

3 of us decided to call for the Sunday carvery today. The staff were welcoming, waiters very efficient and helpful and the new owners genuinely interested in feedback. The food was fantastic. Great choice of plate size options, 3 meats, 10 vegetables and all the extras. We will return again soon. Highly recommended and great value for money.

Went here for New year's day lunch. There was a group of 13 of us which included 3 children, 1 with special needs. We booked last minute due to my son coming home as a surprise from Scotland. Staff at the Fox and Hounds made booking simple and gave us a separate room for us which was perfect for us as a family especially the children. Food was great and the service was the best we've all experienced of recent elsewhere. Would definitely recommend here, the staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for a wonderful experience

Proper old-fashioned hospitality. I genuinely can’t rate this high enough; the owner takes individual personal interest in end-to-end experience and clearly wants to instil a feeling of 50s-90s community spirit that seems so lost in modern society. From the food to the room, every detail was warm, rustic, honest. I was up for a funeral with a friend and the owner took special care to talk with us about his heritage and made for a unique experience. He then helped me with an item I carelessly left behind at considerable inconvenience to himself without any issue. I’m very grateful and relieved that good old-fashioned values still exist.

We arrived Saturday afternoon in the middle of Storm darragh and at 1st sight we thought the place was underwater and closed - due to the storm. 1 road down to the hotel was basically a river so we had to use the 2nd slip road down to the hotel. The water was basically upto the front door and as we sat in the car thinking of our options, the hotel manager (I believe) appeared and welcomed us in via a back door. He was incredibly friendly while managing a very stressful situation at the hotel! The staff were all friendly and incredibly courteous and quickly got us sorted in our room. The room itself was warm and clean, although maybe a little dated, but everything you need was there. The shower isn't a power shower but adequate. The WiFi is free but is definitely needed as your not gonna get much of a signal in this area. We decided on staying here for our evening meal as it was so wild outside and boy were we happy. Again the bar man / the guy who took our food order was so very friendly and couldn't of done more. The food was probably the best we've had in any hotel me and my partner have been to ever!! Seriously - the wife had a curry dish and I had the burger meal - both were amazing - our only disappointment was we were there for only 1 night! As this place does a Sunday carvery and we do love a carvery. So next time we are in the area we will be stopping here and stopping for the carvery!! It's not boutique but it's everything we could want!!

Down South to Saltburn for work on our Caddy. Ignored reviews and booked direct with the hotel. Deposit until arrival. Owners now run this establishment. ALL staff Friendly and attentive. Our Room was beautifully decorated, tea and coffee facilities, shower room with toiletries, spotless towels, comfortable clean bed with nice crisp cotton sheets. Food in restaurant was exceptional. The restaurant newly opened with lovely decor. Owner took time to speak with all customers. Bar area ample. Breakfast consisted of continental and a fry up which was ordered the previous night served in the cafe area. Hotel was spotless throughout. Only downside was we could only get phones and WiFi in the restaurant and bar area possibly due to being located in a valley.

Our bike club Collateral Damage stayed here for 3 nights and I must say we couldn’t have been made more welcome. The rooms are basic and clean and the beds comfortable. The food was good and the service excellent. Great value and and well located for our needs.

Me and my partner are on a cycle tour and booked room for the night, due to some navigation errors on our part we were very late and tired, the owner and the staff went above and beyond for us, staying late to make sure we had a place to stay and some hot food. We had an amazing sleep after a hard day and the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Can't thank the staff enough for really helping us out in our time of need. Great place and even greater people. Thank you so much, I wish I could give more stars.

This place has really gone downhill. The Retriever Bar is now closed and owner Abi is now charging for parking. He is running it into the ground!

this place seems to have gone downhill since the others have posted. *A chef who doesn't taste the food clearly because he doesn't like garlic or spices... *An owner trying to pass off turkey bacon as normal bacon without stating on the menu. I am still angry about it and its nearly a week later. Change what it says on the menu or server proper bacon. *No pressure in the shower and a good 5 mins to warm up, and half of the fancy settings dont work. The toilet in a weird position and uncomfortable to sit on, bathroom could do with some finer touchups (ie silicone oozed out of the wierd metal trim on the walls that you get to focus on as you sit on the oddly positioned toilet... oh n the toilet roll riiiight behind you.) and the tv kept randomly turnin itself off every 5 mins. loved how quiet it was tho.. but a few details were off so all in all, probably wont be back.

Beautiful Hotel and Friendly staff that go way and beyond to meet your needs and ensure that you are comfortable, and delicious food is served here. The staff are so accommodating Thankyou to Abbey the owner, Sam, Christina and Peter. Wonderful team. This Hotel is my go to whenever we visit the north Yorkshire Moors, it is perfectly located to the seaside and lovely scenic walks around.. it is a family friendly hotel and the rooms are spacious and clean, plenty of parking on site. I would highly recommend. Thankyou for making our stay delightful and for being so accommodating looking forward to our next visit.

Room very clean. No skimping with tea, coffee etc in the room. Nice modern ensuite bathroom. Staff are so friendly and helpful. A varied menu and what we ordered was delicious. Not expensive to stay here and we will definitely come again.

Degelijke, ruime (bad)kamer, zalige bedden voor rust op de Cleveland Way. Maar het is vooral Abi, de barman/kok, die voor een zeer warm, familiaal welkom zorgt. Hij maakte speciaal een glutenvrije maaltijd klaar en zorgt voor een gezellige babbel.

Really enjoyed my numerous stays both on my own whilst working, and a few days with my wife. The staff are fantastic from Abbi the owner, Sam behind the bar, Christina the hotel manager and Peter the chef. I have travelled around extensively with work and I have never met a kinder group of people. Thoroughly recommend this place to anyone 👌

My room was very, very small, as was the bathroom. There was mold in my bathroom all around the shower. Im a landlord in the USA, and this is NOT permitted or tolerated. A bit high $$ for the room and food compared to all the other places I've been and that's several hundred places. Food was good again a bit pricey. The restaurant serves was outstanding/excellent. Probably the best hotel I've stayed in. We stayed here on the 5th & 6th June visiting relatives nearby. From the outside it appears to be nothing special but upon entry the welcome was anything but ordinary. Our room (10) was huge and had period furniture and a very modern bathroom. We had dinner the 1st night which was absolutely delicious washed down by quite a few pints of great beer. Breakfast the following morning was equally fantastic, a great selection. Local area is great for walking and some lovely small villages with desolate moorland and fantastic eating places not far away. The owners are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. For the price we paid for 2 nights it is very inexpensive. I heartily recommend it.

Took 20 mins for someone to answer the door when we arrived The bed was rock hard no movement in it at all,it's needs updating all over not a four star has advertised would not recommend
